Track Recommender

Web application where users answer a quiz to discover which SHS strand fits them best and get recommended schools based on their location.

The problem

Students were choosing a senior high school strand without a clear next step, and school lists were not tied to where they lived. A student could pick STEM, HUMSS, or another strand from a poster or a relative, then still have no list of schools that offered it nearby. Advice and school names lived in different places, so the choice and the commute were never one decision.

The solution

A short quiz that ends in a strand and a list of schools near the student. Answers map to a strand, then MySQL returns schools that offer that strand in the student’s area, so the result is a next step, not only a label.

What I learned

The result had to explain why that strand came up. A label alone did not help anyone decide. I also learned to build the whole app in native PHP and MySQL, with no framework: the quiz, the scoring, and the school query all sat in PHP talking to the same database.
